Secure Sockets-laag (SSL (Engelstalig)) certificaten zijn gratis

Het is verbazingwekkend dat sommigen (veel?) hostingbedrijven brengen nog steeds kosten in rekening voor Secure Sockets Layer (SSL (Engelstalig)) certificaten, whereas those are now free:

• ofwel met WHM/cPanel met Let's Encrypt (en de verlenging is gratis & automatisch!)
• or using a third party like SSL For Free.

The word needs to go out that SSL is not an expense any more. Some certificates show a green bar in the browser (genaamd “EV” SSL for “Extended Validation”) which means that the legal existence of the company is double checked (by a human). Those EV SSL are completely worthless: they do not improve the encryption. Consider this: 10 big IT companies have been reviewed and none of them are using EV SSL!

Conclusion: if you really want to invest for your business it will be better to spend your money towards Get Proper Hosting™.
